Every repair is different, and the best solution depends on the material, condition, construction, and location of the damage. Below are answers to some of the questions we receive most often. We will be happy to review your project and recommend the most appropriate repair option.
Q: Do you offer mobile leather repair services?
Whenever possible, yes. Many leather and vinyl repairs can be completed at your home or business. Other jobs – especially those involving panel replacement, machine sewing, extensive degreasing, or longer curing times – must be completed at our appointment-only shop in Mint Hill.
Please send us photos of the item and your location so we can determine where the work should be performed. A travel fee may apply depending on your location and will be discussed before the appointment is scheduled.
Q: Can you restore faded or worn leather furniture?
In many cases, yes. We can clean, prepare, recolor, and protect leather when the original finish has become faded, worn, or lightly scratched.
The available repair options depend on the condition of the leather. Deep cracking, severe dryness, oil saturation, peeling, or structural damage may require panel replacement or another type of repair. We evaluate each piece individually and will explain what can realistically be restored before any work begins.
Q: What types of upholstery repairs do you offer?
We repair many common upholstery issues, including separated seams, broken stitching, tears, damaged panels, worn piping, and certain types of surface damage. We also replace individual leather, vinyl, or fabric panels when a lasting surface repair is not possible.
Depending on the construction of the item and the type of repair, the work may be completed on-site or may require the item – or a removable section of it – to be brought to our shop.
Q: How much does leather sofa repair cost?
Pricing depends on the material, the size and location of the damage, the construction of the furniture, and the type of repair required. A small surface repair or simple seam repair will generally cost less than panel replacement, extensive degreasing, or full color restoration.
We provide free preliminary estimates from clear photos whenever possible. Some projects may require an in-person inspection before a final price can be confirmed. If mobile service is requested, an additional travel fee may apply depending on the location.
Q: Do you repair car leather upholstery?
Yes. We repair and restore many types of automotive leather and vinyl damage, including worn driver’s-seat bolsters, separated seams, cuts, burns, discoloration, and damaged upholstery panels. We also offer steering-wheel restoration when the condition of the original leather makes it a suitable option.
Some damage can be repaired locally, while more extensive wear may require replacement of the affected panel. Many automotive upholstery and sewing repairs must be completed at our Mint Hill shop. After reviewing photos, we can recommend the most durable option and provide an estimated price and turnaround time.
Q: Can you repair vinyl upholstery?
Certain types of vinyl damage can be repaired, including some cuts, punctures, burns, open seams, and areas of discoloration. Whether a repair is appropriate depends on the type of vinyl and the extent of the damage.
Peeling, flaking, or crumbling vinyl – and most bonded leather with a failing top layer – cannot be permanently restored with fillers or coatings. In those cases, the affected panel must be replaced or reupholstered. We will review the damage and recommend the option most likely to provide a lasting result.
Q: Do you handle restaurant, office, and other commercial upholstery repairs?
Yes. We work with restaurants, hotels, offices, medical and wellness facilities, waiting rooms, and other commercial spaces. We repair and reupholster booths, benches, office chairs, exam tables, and other leather or vinyl seating.
We can assist with a single damaged item or a larger multi-piece project. After reviewing photos, quantities, and access to the furniture, we will recommend whether the work should be completed on-site, at our shop, or through scheduled pickup and delivery.
Q: What areas do you serve, and is there a travel fee?
We are based in Mint Hill and serve Charlotte and many surrounding communities. Mobile service availability depends on the exact location and the type of work required.
Some nearby appointments may not require an additional travel fee. For locations farther from our shop, a travel fee may apply based on distance and travel time. Any applicable fee will be confirmed before the appointment is scheduled.
If the item – or a removable part of it – can be brought to our appointment-only shop in Mint Hill, drop-off service is also available and does not include a travel fee.
Q: What kinds of damage can be repaired?
We repair many common types of leather and vinyl damage, including worn or faded finishes, scratches, scuffs, certain cuts and punctures, burns, dye transfer, open seams, and broken stitching.
Not every type of damage can be corrected with a surface repair. Deep tears, severely weakened material, or extensive damage may require replacement of the affected panel. Peeling or flaking vinyl and bonded leather cannot be permanently restored with fillers or coatings and usually must be reupholstered.
The appropriate repair method depends on the material, its overall condition, and the location of the damage.
Q: Do you provide leather recoloring services?
Yes. We can restore worn or faded color, correct areas of discoloration, and refinish leather where the original protective coating has deteriorated. In appropriate cases, we can also change the leather to a different color.
The surface is carefully cleaned and prepared before professional color and a protective finish are applied. Suitability for recoloring depends on the type and condition of the leather, as well as the presence of body oils, silicone products, previous repairs, or other contamination.
Q: Do you guarantee your upholstery repairs?
We stand behind our workmanship. Warranty coverage varies depending on the type of repair, the material, and the condition of the original upholstery.
Not every service can carry the same warranty, particularly when the existing material is severely deteriorated, contaminated, or no longer structurally sound. Any applicable warranty and limitations will be explained before the work begins.
Q: How long does leather restoration usually take?
The turnaround time depends on the repair. Some minor repairs can be completed within a few hours or during a same-day appointment. Panel replacement, machine sewing, full recoloring, and repairs involving extensive degreasing may require one or more days.
Leather affected by body oils or other contamination may require several cleaning, drying, and curing cycles before it can be refinished properly. For larger commercial projects, the work can often be completed in stages to help reduce disruption. We will provide an estimated timeframe after reviewing the project.
Q: Can you remove dye transfer or ink stains from leather?
In many cases, dye transfer can be removed or corrected through professional cleaning and color restoration. Ink stains are often more difficult, and the result depends on the type of ink, how long it has been present, and how deeply it has penetrated the leather.
Please avoid using aggressive household cleaners, alcohol, or stain removers, as they may spread the stain or remove the leather’s original finish. After reviewing photos, we can determine whether cleaning, refinishing, or another repair method is appropriate.
Q: Can you help with multi-piece or ongoing commercial upholstery projects?
Yes. We handle both one-time repairs and larger commercial projects involving multiple pieces of furniture. When practical, the work can be divided into stages so that all seating does not have to be removed from service at the same time.
On-site service, pickup and delivery, or work at our shop may be available depending on the furniture, location, and scope of the project. Scheduling and any applicable travel or transportation charges will be discussed in advance.
Q: Do you repair bonded leather peeling?
Peeling bonded leather or vinyl indicates that the material’s surface layer is separating and beginning to fail. Unfortunately, this cannot be permanently corrected with fillers, coatings, or a spot repair. Applying a new finish will not stop the surrounding material from continuing to peel.
For a lasting result, the affected panels must be replaced or reupholstered. If the deterioration is widespread, reupholstering or replacing the entire piece may be more practical.
Q: Do you repair marine and RV upholstery?
Yes. We repair many types of leather and vinyl upholstery used in boats and RVs, including open seams, cuts, burns, discoloration, and damaged panels.
Vinyl that has become brittle, severely cracked, or is beginning to peel usually requires panel replacement rather than a surface repair. Removable cushions and upholstery sections may need to be brought to our shop, while other projects can be evaluated for mobile service.
Q: Can you repair cat scratches on leather upholstery?
Many surface scratches and areas of color loss can be significantly improved through careful preparation, color restoration, and refinishing. The available options depend on how deeply the claws have penetrated the leather.
Deep scratches that have torn through the grain or weakened the leather may remain somewhat visible or require replacement of the affected panel. We will review the damage and explain the realistic expected result before recommending a repair.
Q: Do you restore leather steering wheels?
Yes, when the original leather is still structurally sound. Steering wheels frequently absorb body oils and other contamination, so proper restoration may require several degreasing, drying, and refinishing cycles. The vehicle or removed steering wheel may need to remain at our shop for several days.
Because steering wheels are exposed to constant hand contact, friction, and body oils, recoloring is not covered by a warranty. If the leather is deeply cracked, stretched, or severely deteriorated, installing a new leather wrap is usually the more durable option.
Q: Do you replace upholstery foam?
Yes. We can assess, rebuild, or replace foam in many furniture cushions and automotive seats to improve support, shape, and comfort. The upholstery cover usually must be removed so the condition and construction of the foam can be properly evaluated.
For automotive seats, the available options may depend on whether molded replacement foam is still available for the specific vehicle. In some cases, the existing foam can be rebuilt or reinforced instead.
Q: Can you match the original leather color?
We custom-mix color to blend as closely as possible with the surrounding leather. Because leather naturally changes with age, wear, sunlight, and previous cleaning products, an absolutely invisible match cannot always be guaranteed.
Color may also appear slightly different under natural light, warm indoor lighting, or LED lighting. When multiple matching pieces are being restored, treating them together and using the same color mixture provides the most consistent result.
Q: How should I care for leather upholstery after the repair?
Allow the repaired finish to cure fully and follow the specific care instructions provided after your service. During the curing period, avoid cleaning products, conditioners, moisture, and unnecessary friction on the repaired area.
For routine care, use products specifically designed for your type of leather or vinyl. Avoid alcohol, household cleaners, degreasers, baby wipes, silicone-based products, and aggressive scrubbing, as these can damage the protective finish. Clean spills promptly and protect the upholstery from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive heat whenever possible.
